Hunger and Thirst | Palm Sunday | April 13, 2025
Sermon Description:
The story in the Gospels of the last week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion and then resurrection has a dramatic shift from the joyful celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem to the sorrowful solitude of Gethsemane. The story reveals a deep truth from the life of Jesus Himself: sometimes, following God and loving Him more than anything else results in being invited to suffer in ways that we really don’t want. In the Garden, we see a tension between what Jesus wants and what His Father is asking him to do. The real spiritual tension between human will and God’s will. And yet Jesus is also the model for the way through this painful reality: prayer and fasting can transform us—especially when we face suffering or seasons of doubt—and calls us to trust in God’s love even when we are given a “cup” we don’t want to drink.
