Hunger and Thirst | Fasting for Formation | April 06, 2025
Sermon Description:
There’s a Snickers commercial that famously says, “You’re not you when you’re hungry.” But interestingly, the Bible says that it’s possible to actually become more in tune with yourself and with God through not eating. Although fasting does mean “not eating” - it’s far more than merely deprivation. It’s a spiritual practice that unites body and soul for renewal and growth. Fasting contrasts our culture of excess with biblical examples of fasting as both a response to sin (turning away) and a preparation for new life (turning into). Fasting fosters repentance, spiritual clarity, and alignment with God’s purposes. And fasting can be a path toward deeper formation and renewed faith.
