THE AFTERWORD | The Wise Life - Week 3

Author John Ortberg once wrote that “humans have a staggering capacity for self-deception.” If you’ve ever watched the bad outtakes of American Idol auditions, you know this is true. We make bad decisions because we lie to ourselves…and we do this because self-deception is the operating system for the human heart. The Bible teaches this, and even secular psychology affirms this. A lot of times, we avoid self-examination because it makes us feel bad about ourselves - or because we’re so busy “doing” and “accomplishing” that we don’t even take the time. Steve and Jay drop by to examine this tendency, and how we can break out of it. Also, pay attention because at one point, Jay utters the phrase “the wobbly stilts of inebriated pleasure” which we think would be an excellent name for a punk-rock band.
