Matthew : Season 4 - Week 1

As we dive back into the Book of Matthew, the Season 4 premiere has us back in the Sermon on the Mount, with Jesus tackling two gigantic issues: money and worry.  Is there a person alive who doesn’t struggle with these two topics?  Interestingly, Jesus ties these two topics together, saying that anxiety about the future often causes humans to “run after” money as if money is the provider, hope and security for them.  Jesus insists that this leads to a form of slavery, and then invites us out of worry by considering the gracious provision of His father on even the lowliest members of nature, saying that if His Father sees, cares and provides for sparrows, grass and wild flowers, then how much more so will he tend to humans, who carry the very image of God.
