For Christians, the Bible isn’t nice to have, it’s vital. Central. Christians believe that the Bible is not just a book, but the divinely inspired Word of God, spoken for us, to lead us in the way of truth and love, down the path toward God’s glory and our good. But it isn’t about intellectual ascent; it’s about transformation. And we find, in the Bible, that the Word of God is referred to as a number of things: it’s bread (life-giving, necessary to our selves for life), a lamp (guides our path in a world that’s dark, a sword (protects us in a world where we’re under assault from lies that assail us) and a scalpel (it does surgery on us to heal us).

This year, our church family is leaning into the practice of the presence of God together, through an ancient practice called The Daily Examen. Despite the breakneck pace of life in Silicon Valley, we are intentionally choosing the pace of peace, taking time every day to slow down, listen, and talk with God.
The Daily Examen has five movements:
Invite: Invite God to make you aware of his loving presence, here and now.
Give Thanks: Consider one positive experience from the day and thank God for it.
Reflect: Reflect on your emotions throughout the day, particularly the painful ones.
Confess: Seek God’s forgiveness and repent for any wrongdoing today.
Look Forward: Pray for the rest of today, and tomorrow.
“Let us occupy ourselves entirely in knowing God. The more we know Him, the more we will desire to know Him. As love increases with knowledge, the more we know God, the more we will truly love Him. We will learn to love Him equally in times of distress or in times of great joy.”
